The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation is pleased to present a day-long opportunity to discuss, debate and determine the future of the craft of journalism in a rapidly changing media environment.

Panel Topics (subject to change):
Breaking Bad: Accuracy vs. Recency in Reporting
From the town crier to the Pentagon Papers, from HuffPo to Twitter, the news cycle continues to shrink almost daily. How do we ethically balance the need for accuracy and reporting with insistent pressure of being first to market on key, breaking news? What is the ethical and financial impact of this rush to press mentality on media companies? An evolving topic with few “right “ answers but a lot of cautionary tales and opinions, this lively discussion should be thought-provoking and informative.
Moderator: Roni Selig, Senior Executive Producer/Director, Health, Wellness and Medical Unit, CNN
Panelists: Wanita Niehaus, Director of Marketing, Scrips Networks Interactive, Marian Pittman, Station Manager,WSB-TV and wsbtv.com; and Peter Prengaman, All-Formats Editor, Southern United States at The Associated Press
News Literacy in the Digital Age
Information is now delivered from numerous sources, but how do audiences determine what is fact or fiction? As fact, opinion and advertisement intersect in newly chartered waters, how can media consumers – especially young people – determine what sources to trust? Come join a panel of experts for a discussion on the importance of transparency, multiple sources, and verification techniques in a rapidly-changing media environment – and leave feeling a bit more savvy, and a bit more skeptical, about what you read and learn.
Moderator: Condace Pressley, Assistant Program Director, AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB, Cox Media Group Atlanta Radio
Panelists: Katie Caperton, Editor-in-Chief, HLNtv.com; Kyle Jones, Social Media Manager, WSB-TV; Kevin Sack, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist with New York Times; Helen Swenson, VP of Programming, The Weather Channel.
