In 2009, the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation with The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation announced a partnership with The Loreen Arbus Foundation to focus on the needs, achievements, contributions and stories of citizens with disabilities.
The AWM Foundation is pleased to announce that that New York University student Destiny Leann Lopez, Class of 2016, is the recipient of 2013 The Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship. This year's theme is A Different Lens. Ms. Lopez submitted a creative writing piece entitled "An Encouraging Burden: A Personal Perspective on Discovering and Living with Hearing Loss," focusing on the challenges and triumphs that come with living with a disability. The 2012 AWMF/Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship theme was You Make the Difference. The winning video was created by Allyson Conyers (CUNY Hunter College) and tells the compelling story of one person with a disability and her involvement in her community.

In 2011, the AWM Foundation and the Loreen Arbus Foundation challenged students to create a creative thought-provoking concept for a PSA based on the theme The Power of Perseverance.
The winning PSA, created by Ashley Thai Wilson (Georgia State University), reflects upon the daily obstacles people with disabilities face and how the surmounting of these obstacles allow them to become thriving and valued members of our community:
In 2010, the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced that George Washington University student Haley Lesavoy was the recipient of the Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship. Ms. Lesavoy created a video Public Service Announcement (PSA) reflecting the theme of Opening Doors & Minds: Celebrating 20 Years of the ADA.
